Blessed are you if you do them

John 13:17 “If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.”

What is Jesus teaching us here? Blessed means empowered, so we are admonished to do what Jesus teaches so that we may be empowered to prosper in whatever He has taught us. But then why aren't most believers not prospering?

One of the most popular scriptures in the Bible is John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” But do you realize that most of us take it out of context? Jesus started addressing the believers from John 8:31 and continued on to verse 32. So it will be clearer for us if we use both verses together.
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

How do these two scriptures compare John 13:17 and John 8:31-32? Now listen to James 1:25 “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

Our empowerment, ability to walk in faith and enjoy the blessing comes from abiding and doing the Word. You are going to encounter a lot of arguments against this but always refer to what our Lord says and does. Knowing the truth without continuing in it will not set you free. If you want to walk in the blessing you must continue in the truth; hearing it, meditating it and doing it.
