Protection is better than cure verses prevention is better than cure

The most asked question from my readers and friends is “Why didn't you call your book "Prevention is better than cure? After all it is a more familiar saying than protection is better than cure.”
First and farmost, I believe that my assignment is "protection rather than prevention". As we examine the 4 main differences between protection and prevention we find that:

Protection is proactive while prevention is reactive.
Protection preserves what you have or focuses on what you want and prevention fights against and focuses on what you don’t want.
Protection is positive but prevention is negative.
Protection focuses on health but prevention focuses on sickness and disease

Though there is nothing wrong with prevention prevention, always remember, whatever you focus on is what you get. You are what you think. Proverbs 23:7 says: “For as he thinks in his heart so is he.” Job said that what he feared most had come to pass.

PHILIPPIANS 4:8 “For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].” Amplified

Our loving Father wants us to focus on the truth, the good things He has done for us through Jesus Christ our Lord. We are advised to think and speak the truth. God’s Word is the truth. It is life and health. This is what Jesus came to give us and that is what we should focus on; His protection for our health, spirit soul and body.
Focus on your health. Thank God for it.
Prevention calls for too much effort. while protection is from God Himself. Our part is to walk in fath and enjoy His grace and mercy.

We are more than conquerors through Christ

Colosians 2:13-15

Satan has no power. He exists but his powers were stripped off him by Jesus Christ our Lord. His powers were overcome. He was made a spectacle,  like a stuffed animal in a museum. He still exists but powerless. If we know this truth, we won’t allow him to feed us on his lies or deceive us into failure. Satan is like a bully. Bullies don’t have guts. They just try to intimidate and make others think they are strong and powerful.

When we study the Bible we see how he was defeated. Read Colosians and see how Jesus defeated and made him a spectacle. Jesus is sufficient for us. In Him we have everything. In him we are more than conquerors.
However, if you submit to Satan he will play his games on you. If you stand up to him in the Word he will flee.
He has no power about anything unless you give it to him. We give him credit that he doesn't deserve. Yes, there is a battle but the war was won and the battle is not the one you think. Most Christians think the battle is out there, but the battle is in your mind. See Eph. 6:10-17 and James 4:7 “Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee.” Many of us do the opposite and thus give Satan the tools he needs!

Is there an area in your life you have let Satan dominate? Remember, Satan is not in charge of the situation, you are. Mark 11:23 Check your communication. Who are you talking to? What are you saying about the situation? What are you meditating on? Eph. 6:10-18

Increasing in love

Phil. 1:9-11
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. KJV

Peter said in 2 Peter 1:3, "his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him."

Love grows the same way, through the knowledge of…. Our love can be increased with the correct knowledge and it can be reduced with the wrong knowledge. Do you recall experiencing more love for someone as you learned of the special things that person did for you? What about a loss of love when you learned that someone you love had done things to hurt you? Relationships have been torn apart; many of us have gone through separation or divorce due to this very reason. It is a fact that our knowledge influences our emotions. The more we know of God and His ways, the more our love for God and others will grow or increase (because God is love and He is good all the time).

In Phil.1:9, the knowledge which Paul refers to is spiritual understanding of God's love. Judgment is the ability to use or apply that knowledge correctly. So Paul is saying that as we gain spiritual understanding of God's love and learn to apply it correctly in our relationships, then the manifestation of God's love in our lives will increase intensely.

The NIV translates Phil. 1:10 "you may be able to discern what is best." As we increase our understanding and application of God's love, we will have better discernment about right and wrong.

We receive the love of God through faith at salvation. Romans 5:5 tells us that the love of God is shade in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Our experience of God's love in our lives is increased through knowledge and judgment. This leads to better discernment of right and wrong and produces sincerity and honesty in us. We can then walk without offense and as these things work in us, the fruits of righteousness follow, unto the glory and praise of God.

True success

What do you think is true success? Is it wealth, fame, worldly accomplishments or enjoying the life you want to live? Whereas God is not against any of these, true success is knowing who you are in Christ and living the life God planned for you. It is walking in God's will for your life and trusting that His plans for you are good no mater what you are going through.

True success is acknowledging God's presence in your life and trusting that He will successfully bring you out of any situation or circumstance. It is recognizing the power of the Holy Spirit within you and letting Him lead and guide you through whatever you are facing.
True success is knowing that God is greater than anything you face and that He has a solution for it. It is having a deep inner peace, being grateful that God will never leave you or forsake you.

True success is recognizing what Jesus did for you as you live the life God preplanned for you rather than trying to compare yourself to others. It is enjoying God's love and letting it flow through you to others. It is living a prayerful life of faith and thanksgiving.

Freedom and sucess

What is true freedom? I found the answer in "The Power of a PRAYING LIFE" by Stormie Omatian. This book is a must read! She reminds us that God wants us to live in true freedom, true wholeness and true success.

I used to think that freedom was doing whatever I wanted to do, whenever I wanted to do it but that is not true freedom. "Tue freedom is being liberated by God from anything that keeps you from doing what He wants." It is becoming more and more like Christ so that you may live the life He preplanned for you.
It is freedom from religious legalism, fear, worry, negative emotions and any type of bondage that may keep us from what Jesus died for us to have and what our loving Father has for us.

Are you among those who started the year with a fast?  Fasting is one of the most important displines and spiritural tools in the Christian walk (Isaiah 58) and many of us start the year with a fast so that we may be free of the debris and the scars from the previous years. But as you may have discovered, unless you dedicate your fast to the Lord and let the Holy Spirit lead and guide you through, your fast may be a waste of time.

True freedom is found in Jesus. We can only enjoy true freedom after accepting and receiving Jesus Christ as our Lord and letting the Holy Spirit be our mentor.

Breaking the fast

Getting off the fast is not as simple as it may seem yet it is one of the most important aspects of a successful fast.
The first time I went on a strict fast, I was so eager to get off that I skipped some of the crucial steps. This led to physical and emotional upsets. I was no longer in control. I felt like getting back on the fast but I dared not.
Since the digestive system is less active during the fast than it is normally, a gradual transition, introducing soft and gentle foods carefully, is an absolute must.

Breaking a partial fast, is simpler and shorter (than a more strict fast); 2-3 days will be ample. Remember though, the longer and the stricter your fast is the longer it will take to break off it. Normally, 4-6 days to get back to your regular diet.
The best dishes for breaking the fast are:
  • Home made broths.
  • Freshly made vegetable juices or fruit juices diluted with 50% purified or distilled water.
  • Vegetables and vegetable soups in small portions may be introduced on the second day.
  • Avoid animal products, sugar and table salt. Use sea salt for your soup.
  • Fruits like papaya (very good for digestion) grapes, pears, apples as well as citrus. Fruits should be kept handy.
  • You may use 1/3 of avocado with your salad or a healthy salad dressing preferably homemade with your salad from day 2 onwards.
  • Nuts and seeds may be introduced on the 3rd day but still no animal products.
  • Millet porridge, oatmeal and other whole grain quality cereals, legumes may be introduced on the third and forth day
  • Avoid over eating. Even with the soft foods, a small portion at a time is recommended. Increase your portions as your digestive system adjusts.
  • Drink plenty of quality purified or distilled water
Between day 4-6 you are ready for your regular meals. It is important that you adjust to healthier eating habits.
Physical activity is essential for improved health.
Enjoy a good rest and quality sleep.

Continue working with the Holy Spirit. As you renew your mind through the Word of God,  you will be able to accomplish your goals and walk in the good plans God has for you. Psalms 16:7 & 11

Fasting:challenging yet exciting

Many devote to a fast at the beginning of the year. Though it calls for serious commitment and discipline, fasting can be exciting. If you are among the fasters don’t lose sight of your goals and your motive.

A few days into the fast you may lose the excitiment as it becomes either too challenging or too boring to continue. This frequently leads to guilt and hoplessness
Remember; God doesn’t want us running from Him out of fear and desperation. Because of His love, grace and mercy, He wants us to run to Him. He says He will never leave you or forsake you. “That is unconditional love!!!!”

Most of us tend to give up and hide from God when things do not work out according to plan. During your fast, if you fail in anyway, remember the Holy Spirit is with you. He is yearning to participate in every step you take. Listen to Him, talk to Him and follow His advice.

As you renew your mind through His Word, and get closer to Him in prayer and meditation, you will be able to walk in the blessing and the good plans He has for you.
God is our strong tower. We run to Him and we are safe. (Proverbs 18:10)

Drink lots of purified water, do some type of light activity and have enough rest and sleep.
